BORDERED DIAMONDS

This quilt was inspired by a Kaffe Fassett Design.  However, I have simplified the directions by using a special ruler and some other tricks.  It is beautiful in Kaffe fabrics, however students have made it in other fabrics with desirable results.

Warbler's Table Ware

By

Details of workshop will be posted at a later date.  Stay Tuned!!!

I am a nurse by profession and worked mostly in the critical care field either in a hospital or as a flight nurse in the Arctic.
I grew up in Saskatchewan being very crafty and my mother was a seamstress but I had very little to do with a sewing machine until I took up quilting in 2002 in Yellowknife.
There I took all kinds of classes from local and visiting instructors that the guild would bring up a couple of times a year. I have continued to take classes thru the years whether in a formal setting or on line.
I started playing with my own designs in Yellowknife but didn't really get going on designing and pattern writing until I was living in the Australian outback. I designed for Arbee Designs out of New Zealand and I still teach for Ruth at The Academy of Quilting an online forum for quilting classes.
Since returning to Canada 6 years ago I developed Quilts by Jen and have been teaching, designing, speaking and writing patterns. I have taught classes at many shops in Ontario as well as have done many trunk shows and workshops at guilds throughout Ontario.
I love colour, the illusion of movement, using different techniques both traditional and non traditional as well as the use of other types of fabrics within my work.
I developed a technique a couple of years ago using a Bargello to make flowers which has been very successful. Presently I am working on a new series creating pieces highlighting Canadian icons.  These pieces use a lot of non traditional quilting fabrics such as upholstery fabrics and silk.
I get my inspiration from all around me whether it be in nature, architecture or Kleenex boxes. In fact I have done a series of quilts inspired by tissue box designs.
I enjoy sharing my expertise and knowledge with quilters and teaching others to create quilts and pieces of art.
I am an artist on the Coldwater Studio Tour as well as the Images Studio Tour.
I was a vendor and instructor at Creative Festival in Toronto for several years.
September 2016 I was the featured artist at QuiltX in St Mary's, Ontario.  I have participated in the Women's Day Art show in Orillia yearly since 2012.
I have an extensive website with my work and tutorials about quilting:   www.quiltsbyjen.ca.

MAY'S WORKSHOP

By

Beth Cameron

(Domestic Goddess Canada)

Beth has a number of different classes that she teaches.

It will be determined which one to choose after input from the members.

Stay Tuned for updates.

Come out and join Jennifer as well as your fellow quilters for a day of fun and creativity. Learn several new techniques from curved piecing to couching to facing a quilt while working on a small improv design piece.

The following techniques will be presented throughout the workshop as you spend the day building and expanding your improv design piece with hourly instructions.

Curved Piecing - an easy no pinning or clipping method for sewing curves

Thread Play -using thread of all weights and sizes along with water soluble stabilizer to create lace like embellishments

Create your own Fabric - using fusible stabilizer and small bits of many varieties of fabric create your own fabric - use a free motion zigzag stitch to stitch down the raw edges

Couching - add dimension to a piece by couching on yarn,
cording, ribbon or heavy weigh threads

Texture Magic - adding dimension and texture to your
fabric has never been so much fun

Facing a Quilt - learn an alternate method to finishing
a quilt - face a quilt instead of binding a quilt

OPEN THREAD BAR (6 hr. workshop)

Have you ever wanted to experiment with different threads before buying them? Well, now you can! This is Superior's official "open thread bar" workshop - you bring your machine and I'll bring the Superior threads for you to play with.

Learn how to choose the correct needle, and how to overcome your fear of the tension dial. We'll discuss the properties of the different threads available today so that you can make an informed decision when choosing thread.

At the end of the day you will have a new perspective on threads and your own sampler as future reference.

Your $5 kit fee will include a Titanium Topstitch needle, prewound bobbin, and use of all threads by Superior. Class notes, "Thread Therapy with Dr. Bob" DVD, plus a special 26-page handout are also provided.

Suitable for all skill levels.

COLOUR VIE LEAF PRINTS
In this class we will spend the day making leaf prints which will be ready to put into a quilt, table runner or placemats or any other project of your choice.  We will use a pigment system called Colour Vie.  These pigments were developed by Gunnel Hag and are readily available through her from her Toronto location.  The paints will be included in the kit fee for this class and information will be provided if you wish to later purchase your own supplies. These pigments have a transparent quality, and alter the hand of the fabric very little, leaving it still very soft.  An added bonus is they clean up easily with water.
One Day Class
There will be a Kit Fee $15.00 which will cover the use of the dyes as well as some other related materials.
Class needs to be scheduled when there are leaves on the trees as the prints are made from real leaves (May to early October)
Any level of expertise. No sewing on the day, just creating the prints
